Wilted Wanderland
You pace and you pace, your legs don't grow tired. But you sure are.
You can go outside anytime you wish, but why would you ever do that? It's empty out there. Pretty skies are about the only thing left, but infinite blinding white street lights and powerlines and Cell towers ruin the view, in every direction for miles and miles and miles. No elevation anywhere to see above them, always in the way.
The Inside is no better, it's where you were split in two, a necessary half left to Wilt away somewhere under the old drab carpet. Least it's warm down there. The other half left in the cold above, wandering, restless.
Looking for something.
Nuclear exchange erupts in the East, deadly violent outbreak down South.
Doesn't really matter. Haven't found it yet.
Frigates spotted in the clouds over The Isles. 3rd Star to go Supernova in the Night Sky in the last month. A Metropolis vanished.
Who cares? It's the Epoch of Nothing anyway.
Just keep Wandering. The tight hallways and cramped rooms are all that exist anyway.
Don't even have windows anymore, no need for them. Everything's inside now. The answers should be too.
The Wheel continues to turn whether you find the answers or not. So many distractions down winding paths that lead nowhere, all they leave is a few good but faded memories, and another majority worth forgetting. Some analogy to chasing rabbits down mysterious burrows deep the the woods can be made here but we've all heard it before.
You sometimes find a brief something or other to fill the abyssal void while biding your time until The Big One⢠occurs as they keep saying from the squawking and chittering obsidian brick in your hand and on your desk.
Alas as said something is always so fleeting, it just carves out more important bits along the edges of the void.
Whether you'll end up nothing first, or everything else will, who's to say. Game of chicken with existence itself.
Maybe we can just agree to blink at the same time and not have to worry about any of it anymore ever again.
